Montreal, November 27, 2009 -- Talks between Teamsters Canada
Rail Conference (TCRC) and Canadian National Railway (CNR) to
renew the collective agreement for 1700 locomotive engineers
broke down Friday evening.
Teamsters Canada Rail Conference President Daniel J. Shewchuk
stated “We are disappointed but not surprised. CN has resisted
any real negotiation in what we believe is an attempt to force
third party intervention.”
The Teamsters Canada Rail Conference has been working with the
Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT) to ensure a supply of
qualified locomotive engineers for the Deux-Montagnes and Mont
St-Hilaire commuters’ lines but CN is refusing to agree to the
arrangement citing “security” consideration.
Teamsters Canada Rail Conference represents 12,000 railway
workers with major railroads and shortline railroads across
Canada and affiliated with the 125,000 members in Teamsters
Canada and 1.4 million members in North America with the
International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
