MONTREAL – As of July 1, Bombardier will be be responsible for
maintenance on three Montreal commuter train lines, taking over a job currently
performed by Canadian Pacific.
Last year, Montreal’s regional transit
authority, the Agence métropolitaine de transport, in part blamed CP’s
maintenance for winter train delays, prompting a stern rebuke from CP.
Under the three-year, $34-million deal announced on Friday, Bombardier will be
responsible for maintenance of locomotives and passenger rail cars on the
Dorion-Rigaud, Blainville-St. Jérôme and Delson-Candiac lines.
"The Montreal commuter rail system is undergoing an important transformation and
we're happy to make a contribution in collaboration with the MTC," said Raymond
Bachant, president of Bombardier Transportation North America.
The AMT has said it plans to build a $119-million maintenance facility for the
three lines in Lachine.
